Inspired by 1: Do-over adpatations

Which TV/movie adaptation would you like to get a do-over on and why?

The Neverending Story! I do like the first movie (the rest does not exist in my mind), but I'd love to see it properly done - actually an adaption that would make sense to be split into two parts!

Mio, My Mio. I've only seen a very old adaption that was pretty terrible. Idk if there is another one.

Not 100% fitting but I do think that the Alexander the Great by Oliver Stone was partially based on Mary Renault's Alexander trilogy... and I'd like a proper adaption of that one. At least Fore From Heaven.

My dream for a Neverending Story adaptation is as an animated miniseries.

I think a beautiful illustration-type animation would be great for the feel of the fantastical world. And I think a miniseries structure would better match the long (and somewhat wandering) journey of the plot.

Ella Enchanted

One that actually follows the book, not just has a curse and the same name name. That movie annoys me so much.

The Chimneys of Green Knowe. For a start, the movie could actually use the title of the damn book it was adapting. Such a wasted potential, great story, fantastic cast, stupidly retitled, and poorly directed. The existing adaptation, called From Time to Time, was such a waste of everyone involved.

I think we're overdue for a new version of Tom's Midnight Garden, it has been a few decades since we had one. Used to be the Beeb did one once a decade at least, it seemed.

I enjoyed the latest A Wrinkle in Time movie, but I didn't think it captured the feel of the book. It was a good example of "inspired by" for me. I'd love to see another take on it, maybe less Disney-fied. I'm torn on if it would work better as a tv/mini series or another movie.

The actress playing Meg was beautiful. I loved the book at least partly because it was the only book I read as a kid where the heroine was specifically described as not being very good looking and since I'm not good looking either I related to her. I feel like the movie makers sold out.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. The original series is slow with a criminally good soundtrack wasted on it, and it got cancelled because the creators didn't realize how dark the rest of the series was going to get.

Also, can you imagine if they rebooted Supernatural?

The Untamed/MDZS - outside of China though still Chinese so they can make it as gay as the novel.

I'd like to see an animated Needful Things that actually had the same damn plot as the book.

That would be amazing. File that under Things I didn't know I Needed.

Horror-fantasy lends itself well to animation. That hasn't been tapped enough IMHO

Wizard of Oz because I want a book-faithful adaption for once.

Eragon because if we get a decent movie we might actually get the later, better books adapted. Also, dragons.

I'd like to see the Animorphs tv show be explored again, especially now that we have better technology for special effects.

Modern adaptations of the classics, like Jane Austen or Shakespeare. They're just endlessly adaptable. We were living the high life in the 90s/2000s and we didn't appreciate it.

Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Phantom of the Opera, with leads who can sing, a Christine and Raoul in their 20s and a Phantom in his late 40s-early 60s, actually horrifying deformity makeup and prosthetics, and if not set in the actual Garnier, then at least not set during what should've been the Commune. A costume designer who does more than vision boards copying paintings and extant clothing would be nice, too.

And, please, a director who doesn't spend all his time promoting the movie talking up how young and sexy the cast and characters are, and telling fans of the stage musical to stay home because he made it for people who want to see young hot people onscreen, not boring musical theatre people who care if they can sing and act or not.
