You always make this ship sound so interesting. Melkor is mainly in The Silmarillion, right? I’ve been considering giving that another try.

Yup. He's the big bad of Tolkien's world. He's the one who turns Sauron evil. Sauron was basically his second-in-command until Melkor is kicked out of Arda. Then Sauron takes over.
