Yeeeah, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but fandom communities don't really exist anymore.

Sure they do, just depends on the fandom and the website.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-24 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I'm a part of two small but very active fandom communities myself.

Speak for yourself, I'm in a fandom discord and following someone reading the canon for one of my fandoms for the first time over on tumblr.

It's 1000% dependent on the fandom, but communities are in fact still a thing, even on DW.

So sorry, nonny. I'm sorry you've lost so much and are going through this. I hope you find the community you are craving.

I feel this

I gave up on fandom. This (FS) is my only fandom and 'community' I participate in anymore. It definitely sucks and has left a hole, but it is what it is. I've tried joining a few offline irl interest groups and that is doing something but it just isn't the same

Since you're here on Dreamwidth, there are several very active communities that you might find something in to make you feel more a part of everything....

https://recthething.dreamwidth.org/
https://fandomcalendar.dreamwidth.org/
https://snowflake-challenge.dreamwidth.org/
https://fan-flashworks.dreamwidth.org/
https://fancake.dreamwidth.org/

Just a few that post daily or almost daily, and might be a good place to start. Good luck, OP! There is still community out here; it's changed, of course, but it's alive and kicking (just like us).

RecTheThing looks just about ideal to me, and I hadn't come across it. I'm so glad you suggested these to the OP!

I'm sorry for all of your losses, nonny.

I relate to feeling lost community-wise. It always depends on what site you're using and/or fandom, but... Reaching out and keeping up with people is always the key. Which I kind of struggle with too.

I'm sorry for all your losses, OP. I hope you can find somewhere good and supportive that makes your heart happy.

If you are the "I'm just blunt" anon, then you should very much stop interacting with fandom.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-24 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
What makes you think they are?

Oh my goodness. I'm so sorry for your loss, OP. I can't even imagine the grief and sadness you're going through.

If you're interested but I've been hanging out on Reddit (yes, I know) and it has a surprisingly active fandom communities. Just recently joined the Xena reddit. There's also communities for dealing with loss and grief, if you feel like joining. I know reddit has a bad rep about being bad, but it's not so bad as long as you don't look at the front page. As a nonamerican I just avoid it like the plague. Just sticking to your homepage and to the things you know is fine.

AO3 also has a fandom, of course. Being The Place to dump your fic.

I genuinely hope you find solace in whatever activities you decide to engage on, OP.

Hugs, anon. I'm so sorry for what you've been going through. I hope you find the community you're searching for.

I’m very sorry for your losses anon, that’s certainly a lot. I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Fwiw I was a terminal lurking for a good decade and last year something just snapped in me and now I’ve found a couple of niches on tumblr and am in an couple of active/lovely Discord servers. But I think it really does depend on the fandom. A lot are still clinging on to Twitter but I’m done with that place.
