Millennium was NYE 2000. NYE 1999 was just the odometer rollover.

Oh JFC, not this bullshit again.

Base ten does not start at one; it starts at zero. You know this. I know you know this because you would not say that 2020 is the last year of the teens; you'd say it was the first year of the 20s. You might reply, "nuh uh, I totally would" to bolster your argument here, but in real life, you know very well that that would make no fucking sense. You understand that we put the 2 in front of the 0 to indicate that we've moved on to the next group of numbers.

Dude, we just made up the numbers anyway. We don't actually know when we started counting from the first zero. Just at somepoint we arbitrarily decided that we'd count from when we think that maybe some itinerant cult leader was born, but we don't exactly when that was, or if he even existed or the oral traditions are based on amalgamating a bunch of different itinerant preachers into one fanon character, or if he was even an itinerant preacher at all and not a misunderstood Very Naughty Boy. The numbers only matter if we decide they do, and we decided the important one was the ninety-nine into double zero.

My first reaction was, NYE 1999 was overhyped! Then again, RDJ would have been invited to way better parties than my suburban teen self.

I also missed it as I had major surgery the day before and was in hospital. I was fine with that, though, we made lots of Day of the Triffids jokes, where everyone else would be looking at the sky and I was the one person stuck in hospital who wouldn't go blind from the evil light display!
