I’m not op and didn’t even know this existed. But with Discovery, I think a lot of the vitriol is because legitimate criticisms about the show were shouted down and passed off as racism, sexism, or homophobia. It meant not addressing real issues with the show so a lot of Trekkies I knew at the time were happy to see the show doing worse each season.
(I can’t remember what the specifics legitimate criticisms were. I checked the show out and it wasn’t my thing so I checked out.)
