They are a product for children. Children like plushies. Horses are furry. How do they not work?

Pretty sure OP means visually. A lot of the official plush toys are weird looking and off-model. Small children probably don't care, but I did when I was a kid.

DA but curious if the ones in the secret are considered good or bad ones? They look fine to me but I'm not in the fandom.

Bad, IMO, this style of modern plush is super low quality and off model. There are some slightly better looking plush cataloged here.

Ty for the link! I am about to dive into a whole new rabbit hole.

What are you talking about those are adorable.

Wait, why?

I actually probably would have loved first gen MLP back in the 80s if they’d been plushies! Their weird, cold vinyl bodies set off some primordial alarm for me and I couldn’t stand them.

Disagree, I loved my 80s Surprise plush pony and her neon yellow hair.

Took my a minute to realise you meant Pinkie Pie ancestor Surprise and not the could possibly had triple foals Pony Surprise

I used to sew plushies from a pattern a friend of mine drafted (she was selling them on Etsy for a while, idk if she still does). The pattern was great, it worked fantastic and the Ponies looked exactly right.

Plus, I have a copy of the orginal 1980s MLP sewing pattern for a plushie shaped like the classic style, but with felt eyes because we couldn't do custom embroidery for the eyes back then like we can now. So, MLP plushies have been happening far, far longer than you think.

The G1, G2, and G3 plush were cute. The modern plush are just plain bad, the fanmade ones look so much better.

It's the eyes. I used to have a beanie baby problem. Then TY started making all their plushies with those huge eyes. I haven't bought one since.

At least the ones in the photo are still embroidered, not those big ugly TY plastic ones. But yeah, in the photo the eyes are angled the wrong way, or rather they aren't. Maybe too long instead of tall like the cartoon.

never watched the show. i don't understand why the ponies are all the rage among anyone-- especially adult males!

(Anonymous) 2025-02-06 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
oh yeah, those legs are trash. either the horse can't stand up or the legs are super stuff and un-cuddleable. The linked horse plushies (MLP Yume G5 Plush) look way better because the legs cover almost the same area as the body.

My sister loved MLP and had some of those plushies!

I personally found them cute and so tempting to pick up and hug.
