I feel for you, OP, but people in relationships do not magically stop finding hot people hot. It kinda sucks if your bf really is that shallow, but him liking a fanservice character shouldn't be getting to you this much - is there some other reason you don't feel confident about how you look? Because, really, no one is ever going to look like a 2D fanservice girl, no one is ever going to quit looking at fanservice just because they're dating someone IRL, and there are more important things in your life to worry about. Granted, if your boyfriend was obsessed with a video game/anime character to the point of ignorning you completely, and/or constantly (or even occasionally) comparing your physical attributes to hers, I would say it was time to get yourself another less douchey boyfriend. But that's not what you say he's doing. He seems to like her tits, you say, and you feel you can't compete. The truth is, nobody can compete, because her tits aren't real, and neither is she, they're pure fantasy. They don't exist in real life.

Are you telling us that you have never, EVER looked at or thought about another guy since you started dating your current boyfriend? Be honest. Because that's what your boyfriend is doing, perhaps not as subtly as he should. He needs to learn a bit of tact, maybe, if he's being obvious about it to the point of upsetting you, but if you're getting upset because he always plays the same video game character and you only think it's because he'd rather look at her tits instead of yours (I mean, has he actually SAID that?), it's possible you could be reading too much into it. Maybe he likes her tits, maybe he likes something else about her.

Easier said than done, I know, but try not to let it upset you so much, because really, unless he's spending every waking minute with you playing this game or talking about how great this character is, he's spending the time with you because he no doubt thinks you're a great girl with some pretty nice tits of your own, right?

You neglect to say how deep the fascination is here. Men (and women!) alike can and do fancy fictional characters and unattainable individuals whether they have RL significant others or not; it's what they DO with those feelings that is good or bad.

If it's not anime, it's porn, if it's not porn it's actresses. The problem isn't that your boyfriend is turned on by these things, it's that you are unhappy with yourself, and fundimentally don't believe you are sexy/attractive/worthy enough for the guy you are with.

Here's the kicker -- there's nothing your boyfriend can do about this. Even if he gave up looking at everything female, the insecurity would still be there. What you have to do is stop putting yourself down, and that's really tough. You have to trust in your own innate attractiveness that your guy genuinely loves and appreciates you and no actress/pornstar/anime figurine will ever sway his heart. But the onus isn't on him to prove it, it's on you to stop undermining yourself.

If it's just a harmless "oh, hot fantasy" thing, that's one thing, but the way OP describes it I wonder if it really is just a hot fantasy, and not an unhealthy obsession. I've heard interesting stories about some guys that get really into video games/manga - and probably girls, too, though I've heard less about them. They start to prefer the perfect bodies of pixel-created female girls, to the point where they look down on all real women and want only their perfect, objectified fantasy-girl who will never, ever do anything they don't want or be anything less than awesome because she's only in their imagination. It's escapism to the extreme, completely forgetting reality in favour of the unattainable ideal, and not at all healthy.

If this is the case, I don't think it's something OP can really fix. I suggest she find someone who is able to appreciate the reality in front of him, and not just fixate on fantasy characters to the point of blocking out the real world.



... of course, on the other side, getting jealous of a fictional character when boyfriend simply finds her sexually attractive and doesn't forget about you or compare you to her, well, yeah, I guess velvet_mace's advice is pretty good, too.

I'm rather skeptical that was the case, because that sort of obsessiveness is generally pretty damn obvious on a first date, and it's doubtful she'd have progressed all the way to falling in love without noticing that he was a full bore creepy otaku. Generally the guys who prefer 2D to 3D don't know how to (or honestly care to) date.

Don't you have any little crushes on fictional characters or actors? He should be allowed the same.

Get playful and tease him about it! Having a more light-hearted attitude may make you feel better. Otherwise perhaps you just need reassurance about your attractiveness, bring the subject up and see what he says.

If it gets to an unhealthy, cruel or obsessive level then break up with him.
