I can see where you're coming from. Doc is an insanely talented guy and I respect and adore everything he has to offer.

But I don't know.

The Venture Bros. means more to me than a comedy/parody cartoon should mean to ANYONE, so I don't know how I would react if Doc chose his paintings and his music over the show.

It would kill me.

Having just seen Weep in concert, I am forced to wildly disagree.

I hope to GOD that Doc is remembered more for Venture Brothers than for what he calls his music.

not the op, but i do have to say that (working under the assumption that you're talking about the d*c concert), he really got the shitty end of that deal - they didn't even let weep do their soundcheck properly, and there was also the fact that they made them perform for maybe 75 of their own fans, and at least 150 people who were in there for THE NEXT BAND.

plus, if you were there for abney park, it's not exactly surprising that you wouldn't like weep.

Really? I thought his music was mediocre at best, and his paintings are flat out boring. Moody women in their undergarments, never seen that before!

Doc's a nice guy, and I really hope he sticks with V.B. and cartooning in general, it's definately his forte.

I bought that CD the second it came out because I loved his previous projects.
That man DOES need to do more paintings though.

Yeah, that's the sticking point. It's already on it's way to being a cult classic, and there's very little of it that won't translate.

Yeah. I mean I don't have any real opinion of Doc Hammer's other stuff since I haven't experienced it but it rather bugs me that the secret maker automatically assumes nobody will remember the show in twenty years.

Ha, very true. That sadly didn't occur to me. I never was a big Johnny Quest fan.

I mostly knew the 90s adaptation. Scooby Doo, on the other hand...

I think maybe he should continue to do what he enjoys doing. Presumably, this includes working on the Venture Brothers, as well as doing his musical and artistic stuff.

Dude I've never even heard of this band (though now I'm intrigued) but I'm just going to go ahead and say that you're wrong about Venture Brothers. It's definitely not a series that will be forgotten. I think Doc is a talented artist as well, but I'm incredibly offended that you feel like writing for a cartoon is somehow a "lesser" endeavor than playing in a band or painting. Fucking get over yourself! (And your comment is condescending as well -- Doc Hammer can do whatever the hell he feels like! It's possible to be talented in several things and devote time to all of them, you don't have to pick one pursuit over the others!)

Look up the term "Renaissance Man" sometime.

There are few things I hate as much as hearing someone claim that an artist/writer/musician is "wasting" their talents because they're doing A instead of B, B usually being the thing the complainer prefers.

Who the hell are you, right? No one is obligated to focus more on one aspect of their creativity for your happiness. If he enjoys writing a cartoon, then he isn't "wasting" his time, talent, or self, even if you'd rather see the effort spent elsewhere.
