god, youtube picked the perfect preview picture for that didn't they?

this video always puts me in a good mood. it's just that hilarious.
granted, the song itself has a pretty good beat, but the vocals could pass for comedy.

I actually found that quite (unintentionally) hilarious, especially that weird cat-having-a-hairball sort of noise in be background.

I like how the girls are just so nonchalant about the bandmembers screaming in their faces.

see, the backing track isn't awful - even the screaming isn't awful - what gets me is the rampant misogyny inherent in the whole "strangling" bit. the thing that i guess is worth realizing is that almost all "emo" music is misogynist to a point (putting women on a pedestal/but they won't fuck me etc. etc.) and yet most of it hasn't gotten to the "strangling women 'cuz they're bitches" point - and call me a pussy, but this is kind of where a line should be drawn, y'know? of course, i'm straight LIT UP so WTF do i know, but still...

I watched a part of this without sound. Uh... oh dear. Then I looked at their wiki page. Here are some delightful excerpts:

and some reviews:
Metal Edge magazine has called Brokencyde "fucking horrendous".
British commentator Warren Ellis calls Brokencyde's "Freaxxx" music video "a near-perfect snapshot of everything that’s shit about this point in the culture".
The NME stated in a review of I'm Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It!, that "even if I caught Prince Harry and Gary Glitter adorned in Nazi regalia defecating through my grandmother’s letterbox I would still consider making them listen to this album too severe a punishment."

What they produce should not be allowed lagally to be called music. It is just noise. Horrible, horrible noise.

But really, I don't get that level of musical elitism. I can never help thinking that anyone who feels that musical taste is a good way of assigning people to their own personal hierarchy of acceptability...

I love BrokeNCYDE just because they're so damn awful. :D But... I applaud you for trying to rid yourself of musical elitism, although I can see why you'd get frustrated over people who like that band. Still, it's not worth getting so riled up over.

I don't want to live in a world where anyone likes that band... Even ironically. But I live in a world where they probably make a truckload of money from disaffected hipsters... which depresses me greatly.

I know what that's like. After loosing one friend because she loves Twilight and I really don't, I told myself I wouldn't let a book get in the way of my friendships. It's hard, and I'd rather be an elitist who preaches about how terrible Twilight is.
