Actually, I like Sanctuary, and I'm not generally a big fan of Amanda Tapping - and I'm still not, even now. I just enjoy the concept of the show and like playing "spot the Vancouver thespian" while watching it.

Get over yourself, and try looking in more than the primary fandom communities before making dumb assumptions like this.

firstly, i don't judge you for enjoying it. at all. especially since you're not an amanda fan. i, personally, can't stand the show because the writing is sub-par. the idea is cool, though.

secondly, that right there is a dumb assumption - who says that's where i looked to form my opinions? i have watched every episode of the show, have tons of friends who watch it, and have visited many communities to see what the appeal is. i did the research before forming my opinion. please do not tell me to 'get over myself'. it's not ~serious~. it's just how i feel.

To start with, I agree that it was sub-par writing. But it hasn't yet shown the major failings that SG-1 or SGA did - and yes, they were my jumping-off point, but only because I already watched those and was put onto Sanctuary by someone else in the fandom who knew me. So I was willing to give it a further chance, and began to like what I was seeing.

That's exactly it, though: you appear to have only looked at the Sanctuary fans you know and the ones who are part of fandom communities, instead of going any further than that to see if you're right first. I'm not in any of the fandom communities, and I only have about three people on my flist of three hundred who are major players in what's still a pretty small fandom. And I'm not crazy, nor a raving Amanda fan, as I've said.

I didn't expect you to reply; few secret-makers seem to in the SF fandoms. So my open hostility is in response to what I perceived as yours from your secret, which is written in a very hostile way and does imply that you do judge people who watch it. Most people who write like that, in my experience, are serious about it. I'm glad to hear that you are not, and I hope you're willing to give the show another try next season, perhaps. Also, I apologise for calling you dumb.

see, for me, bad writing is a deal-breaker. that's my own thing, though, and i accept that fully. that's something that can be seen as a 'tv handicap', but whatever. i'll watch flippant shows, sure, but for a show that takes itself so seriously, i expect good writing.

no, you're not crazy, clearly. actually, you and i are friends, but i can't really say more than that for fear of total fandom shunning. we share a lot of friends, so it's not like i've formed my opinion on what i wanted to see. i have former and current friends who are fans of the show. i have a very large flist, and a big part of that flist are sanctuary fans. so i kind of have a big pool in which to do some research. though my flist is no where near 300! that's impressive.

the reason i replied is because a) i greatly respect your fandom and real-life opinions, and find you to be a great debater, and b) i genuinely wanted to let others know that the secret wasn't meant to be bitchy for no reason. i am very bitter about what amanda and sanctuary have done to some of my friendships. however, that doesn't mean that i don't want to hear other people's viewpoints! i find them fascinating.

Hm, I see. There are several deal-breakers for me, more serious ones than bad writing, but Sanctuary hasn't hit any of them yet. SGA did, which is why I ditched it.

Interesting. Though I'm somewhat more hurt than offended by the implication that I would shun you for not liking a show I like and for being honest about it - that seems to say to me that you don't have much of a good opinion of my ethics within a friendship. :/ As for the 300, it's hard to keep up with, but I do what I can.

Well, thank you. So many secrets are deliberately bitchy for no or little reason that it gets difficult to separate the upset ones from the just bitchy ones.

oh, in no way would i think you'd do that! i mean my flist as a whole - i know many people would de-friend me over this show. which is why i have to keep quiet about my hatred for it. but you, i know you wouldn't do that at all. i'm so sorry you thought i meant that! i know you have strong friendships and strong friendship ethics, otherwise you wouldn't have so many people that love you.
