Oh man, I feel this. One of the most popular fics for my OTP is really long but really OOC. It was the first major fic for this ship and colored the fandom for years. they are a really good author, and I like some of their other fics. They just really don't get these characters.

It's not a bad reason to get into a show, there's no bad reason imo, I've done it before and most of the time I end up enjoying the show as a whole too, I don't always still ship the pair that got me interested though(fandom gasses that up sometimes tbh). xD

But this show was pretty great and I thought these two were cute as fuck even if I didn't do fandom shipping for them.

Oh I feel this, I've been reading some long-fic for my current ship and some of them are decently written, paced and all that... but so OOC that it should be OC-fic because the only thing they share with the canon characters is the names. But like you I can't write that in the comment because it definitely fits the 'it's true but you shouldn't say it' meme.

Makes me think of recent Mortal Kombat. Ronda Rousey did a terrible job as Sonya, and Megan Fox somehow did even worse as Nitara.

Agreed. I feel the same way about relationships. I love to read ship fic but once it is canon I feel like it usually ruins it.

Oof. This gives me flashbacks to Digimon Adventure 02's ending. Say what you want about the quality of 02, its actual epilogue ruined the fun for both series.

Also, I feel like this is worse in live action media because half the time they seem to use the original actors but "age" them up with makeup. Badly.

The longest fandom I've been in as an adult started from a ship (I'm still as active in it as I was at the start, years and years later). It's totally fine, OP! Plus Trevor/Sypha is a very good ship, so who could blame you.
