Re: Have you ever hoped for something to fail?
(Anonymous) 2025-02-21 02:55 am (UTC)(link)I'm optimistically hopeful it might breathe some life back into the fandom without all the baggage, which could possibly rekindle my love for the series. I abandoned the whole thing because fandom became nothing but hate hate hate.

I just want to have a good time enjoying a story I used to love.
I'm so tired of being shamed for that because money.

(Anonymous) 2025-02-21 04:42 am (UTC)(link)They take issue with you continuing to fund an asshole who proudly supports groups that harm marginalized folk.

(Anonymous) 2025-02-21 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)Aaaaand that's why I hope the series resets the fandom with new blood.
We've established that the majority of people are not terminally online and casually enjoy the series and don't know or care about JKR's politics. I hope I get the chance to connect with fun fans again.
Re: Have you ever hoped for something to fail?
(Anonymous) 2025-02-21 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)I'm sorry the thing you love was tainted. I used to love it to. I feel like my whole childhood rotted in my chest from the inside out, between harry potter and a couple of more personal revelations. But JKR's funding of hategroups has an impact. Legal impacts, medical impacts. Laws that make it harder for trans people to get medical care are going to increase trans suicide rates. Her material support for anti-trans propaganda is going to increase anti-trans hate crimes.
That's not being being a Hater to Harsh Your Vibe. That's the truth of cause and effect. And if you're so selfish that you'd rather ignore that than give up a little bit of nostalgia, people are going to be pissed off at you when you admit it.
Re: Have you ever hoped for something to fail?
(Anonymous) 2025-02-21 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)Like nobody is asking you to be perfect and we all have areas where it's impossible to sidestep some ethically or morally fucked up shit. Like maybe Wal-Mart is the only game in town and without it, you'd go without basic needs or starve. But spending more money on media you have already consumed where the creator is doing harmful things is a personal choice, and not a basic need. You can enjoy a series without spending more money on it. But if you can't separate your enjoyment of a series from funding its bigoted creator, I'm not sure what to tell you. And if you intend to interact with casual fans who know nothing of the creator's behavior, while you yourself know of the harm the creator is doing, while pretending that is not the case, all because you want your comfort stories to be relevant again, then you are part of the problem.
