ok, this might sounds like I'm encouraging you which I'm not but I could made a bet at least 80% of the people in the fandom begun to read porn while they were underage... I just wonder how underage you are

I don't think you have to lie about your age, or hide it, just don't say it, it's not like we ask

and you are right it's kinda freaky if you get a review saying "hey I'm 14 and I should be already in bed because I have school tomorrow but I loved your smut... it's hot, I just hope my parents don't find out" and believe me that kind of reviews do freak (us) out

just don't create account in places where you shouldn't be like aff or ygal... I can tell feedback it's always nice

Just leave your age as one of those undiscussed topics- you don't have to lie about it or pretend to be older. Just don't discuss it at all. I did that myself from the time I started reading smut when I was all of about 14. That was quite a long time ago. I still don't advertise my age in fandom. One of my favorite fansites/message boards from way, way back (I'm talking about when ezboard was one of the prefered methods of fandom communication) actually had an official "don't ask, don't tell" policy about age.

I just have to say that this is really honorable of you and as an adult writer of smut, I really appreciate it. It does make me uncomfortable when those that are underage read my fic. I KNOW that there are people under 18 who are mature enough to handle it (and those that are older who aren't), but there are legal and moral issues that I just don't enjoy thinking about. I mean, I've been reading romance novels since I was like 14, so I can see how it can happen. But I really hate when entitled little brats come whining to me because they can't get around Adult Fanfiction's magical age barrier.

That being said... I do have some fans that are underage and while I don't like it, they are very mature and reasonable and I am somewhat okay with it. All I can say to you is... don't act your age! :P If you don't act like an annoying little twink, you won't be treated like one.

Heck, I write smut and I don't mind if "underage" people read it, mostly because the age of sexual consent is different all around the world. That, and I was writing NC-17 fic when I was only ten myself, so. *shrugs cheerfully* Seriously, join fandom! You don't have to tell everyone your age, and most people won't care anyway. Go for it.

I didn't really worry about this when I was younger... but on the other hand, when I was younger (at least for most of my smut-reading period) smut was on FFN and AFFN, and not nearly as much on livejournal.

Just make an account. Don't update it much (or update it all the time without ever mentioning high school) and don't put in anything which reveals your age. It's not lying, just dancing around the subject! :D

The age of consent varies from place to place, but outside the USA 16 is generally the norm. The age at which you're allowed to watch smutty things also varies - hardcore is 18 pretty much all over, but in Europe extremely violent content is actually rated more stringently than lime-ish sexual content; to use the UK as an example, films with sex scenes tend to get 15 ratings and gory films get 18 ratings. It's only in the USA that people believe sexuality is worse than hyper-violence.

I don't know of any place in the world that has an age restriction on written or illustrated smut. It's banned entirely in some places but I know of nowhere where anyone's bothered to make an age-specific law about it (instead there might be content specific laws, such as shota being banned in Australia). No one is stopping you from walking into a library and reading every single sex scene you can find. No one would stop you from writing to their authors and telling them you liked their work, either.

I know of a few underage people who read my smut. I was underage when I first read smut (in dead tree books at first, before I found fandom). I think so long as you can act mature, most people are not going to give less of a shit about your age. Some will, but most won't, because most have been reading smut since they were your age - or younger. Some have been writing smut since they were your age or younger. So please, dive in, leave feedback and prompts and maybe write a bit yourself; be mature and tactful, don't go 'oh lol i hope my parents dont catch me reading this', and if your parents do catch you remember that your choice of online reading material is your fault and (to some extent) theirs, not ours.

If you're mature enough to worry about it you're probably mature enough to be in fandom, honestly. But if you're more comfortable waiting it out, that's fine too - your call, your comfort zones, yeah. All the best, OP.
