Damn I didn't even know that movie was out already. D:! I didn't like the comic that much, but I do want to see the movie.. so for me its good news you liked it more. xD

I met and chatted with Steve Lieber earlier this year, at a comic con. He was friendly and awesome. We talked for about 10 minutes about his work and techniques. I was impressed and would love to talk shop with him again. ^^ Oh yeah, and his wife is nice, too! (appologies for my comment not having any relevance to the actual secret)

...really? Wow. I'm trying to think of reasons like "the OP is dyslexic and enjoyed a movie more than reading" or "the OP has an extreme fetish for Kate Beckinsale" because that kind of reason is the only way this could be true.

Biggest reason is that, in the movie, it's not a big deal that she's a girl. Because the base has a staff of both men AND women. This is actually more plausible than the notion that the U.S. government would send a LONE woman to a base FULL OF HUNDREDS OF MEN. That's not very likely. Second biggest reason is that it was more beautiful to look at Antarctica in real life than it could ever be in just the black and white drawings. Thirdly, some of the characters seem to be improved - especially the paternal figure of "Doc" in the movie - and fourth, the change from gold to diamonds is smart. I dunno. It had a lot going for it.

I work at South Pole. My friends and I are incredibly excited to watch Whiteout on DVD together because it looks so funny to people who know Antarctica. There were at least five hilariously wrong bits in the preview we saw.
