Oh, there are plenty of adaptations that are, as adaptations, lousy, but make good movies.

The Shining is a pretty standout example of *that*.

Yeah, that is true. And there's a lot to recommend the first film as a movie in itself... After that, I can't say I see it. Could be I'm too biased tho.
