Do you buy fresh flowers?

I came across a local store that sells 3 for $10 assortment bundles, and I've developed a bit of a habit. I get 1-2 bundles a week and trim and arrange them in a vase.

I put them in the kitchen, and it makes kitchen work so much more pleasant.

Everyday I check the water, remove wilted bits, and rearrange as needed. It's become this routine that makes me want to keep everything else in the kitchen area nicer and more in order.

House plants would be more practical, I know, but we have little natural indoor light, and I also kind of enjoy the transience of fresh flowers.

Not for myself, but I’ve started trying to do that whenever I visit my mother.

I think she feels similarly to you and also tends to them every day. (I could never, I barely remember to water my little pots of ivy once a week or so.)

I can see how they really affect how she feels about the room: the colors, the scent, and as you say, the change and transience. Sometimes she sends me pictures of buds that open slowly over a few days.

Actually, thinking about all this, I’m kinda inspired to get some indoor flowering plants for my windowsill.

Sometimes - I am very sensitive to smell and a lot of them aren't really suitable for me, even though I love them. They also generally keep fresh for a really long time when put in a cooler place overnight, though I'm aware that's not an option for a lot of people.

I did when my mother was still alive, because I knew that she loved them.

No. I admire fresh flowers, but can't bring myself to spend the money on what I know is a brief lifespan, no matter how enjoyable. But then, money is tight. If I had unlimited disposable income, I might.

Back when I first had a job and money stretched further, yeah; I'd hit up grocery stores or the farmer's market and have at least one bouquet a week.

Now I grow stuff sometimes, but I rarely cut anything to bring inside.

When I lived with my sister I began telling myself I would do what you do when I live alone!

Glad to hear someone's doing a small sweet thing for themselves.

I don't do this (and didn't do it when I lived with my sister) because the place is usually jam packed with stuff. My flowers would get knocked over or thrown away if I were to try to do it with my current living situation.

In meantime, I hope you keep it up OP. Sounds like a nice small thing to do for yourself to bring some joy and thoughtfulness!

I never have, but this comment is making me consider it. When I was a kid, my mom had a huge back garden, and from february to september we'd have our own fresh flowers and they were so beautiful. I've always felt like paying money for something that's just going to die is pointless, but maybe it would be nice.

I'd have to find a good place to put them (we're still moving in, things are piled and cramped) and make sure it wasn't anything that could make our cat sick, but...maybe.

...although if I could keep it alive, I'd rather get a little potted orchid or something. they don't need too much sun. One year my mom gave me one for my birthday and it lived on my desk at work for years.

I do get the logic but on the other hand, the flowers in the shop are already cut and will die anyway, whether they do so in your home, someone else's or the store bin is kind of the same. I know, supply and demand and all but still.
