not trying to ruin your life or anything but are we ignoring all of Melted McElroy's gross tweets from ye olden days of twitter? lol

I can't be the only one who doesn't give a shit about tweets anymore unless they are actual crimes.

i have no stake in this race (i know nothing about these guys tbqh), but he seems like a nuisance and the tweets might belie his true nature ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know any specifics about the tweet situation you refer to, but I know when they've been called out on stuff they've been pretty good about listening and learning and not just doubling down like so many people seem to do.

I don't know these guys. How bad are we talking and was there any sign of remorse?

(Anonymous) 2025-03-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know anything about that. Off to Google!

I will say, anything they said or did problematic in earlier episodes they apologized for, attempted to make amends for, and learned and grew from. They actively are ashamed of early episodes and advise people not listen.

Understandable. I try to keep in mind that creators and celebrities are simply people who I enjoy the work and public personas of. Our connection can feel personal, because of how much their work means to me, but it isn't really. They're just a person who did something I really liked. The other stuff about them may or may not be so great.

I know! I haven't kept up with them after the TAZ first campaign (and I listened to a fair bit of Sawbones) but I remember them being just, really funny, charismatic dudes who also felt normal and familiar (they're from the US South, as am I, and it was nice hearing that accent being not completely shitty, if that makes sense).

Parasocial relationships are a real thing and I try to be mindful about expectations but I'd be pretty sad if any serious allegations came up about them. :(

Meanwhile I'm over her thinking Bean Dad didn't deserve to get fired by them...

People can be assholes and also bring others joy.

Go ahead & tear me apart for that FS.

Every once in a while I see someone on Tumblr saying they should be cancelled because, like, Travis made fun of sex workers once on Twitter, and I’m always like, “hmmm, shitty, but I don’t think this is a burn-it-all-to-the-ground-level offense.”

Also holy mother of god, check out their McElroy Family Clubhouse livestreams if you haven’t already. Clint was on last month, and he made them play a trivia game where, whoever knew the most about Clint got something written into Clint’s will for them. Most of the chat thought it was morbid, but it was exactly my sense of humor.

Before I left Tumblr I remember there being someone who would occasionally 'remind' everyone that a member of the extended McElroy family (aka not one of the brothers) did/said something racist and therefore we should all stop supporting any and all McElroys that did not vocally disavow them for it.

That's not WHY I left Tumblr, but it's certainly part of what prompted me to. I'm tired of that kind of faux-activism. I get where it's coming from but it's not helpful.

AYRT - Yeah, I thought about noting that being on Tumblr was my first mistake in this scenario. XD Also Jesus, I hadn’t heard about your example but that’s stupid. If people judged me for things my family said/did, I would never be able to leave my house.
