This is the result of binging shows culture. OP doesn't want to wait even a bit for story to build.

that poor cat with the squished face. Some humans are evil.

you should watch her deleted song.

I feel like this one's probably nuanced. Are we talking characters whose queerness still plays a part in the story, or offhand mentions? There are in-betweens, of course.

(Anonymous) 2025-03-18 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I get it. Like, I absolutely don't want to erase the existence of bi and pan people, but people are not stories. Just saying that a character is queer and then not showing any queerness feels bait-y. A story is different from real experiences. A bi woman getting together with a man is still a queer woman, but a story of a bi woman getting together with a man - if the fact that she's bi can be removed from the story and not effect anything at all - is...well...not. IMHO. Gives very "Oh yes, Dumbledore is gay, but I didn't put it in the text because I'm pretending to be progressive-" except they're putting it in as a honorable historical mention to get queer brownie points.

Like, at least give me a queer love triangle where one or both of them have love interests of the same sex, that they have romantic moments with, even if they ultimately choose each other. SHOW me, don't TELL me.

I agree that tag is way overused, but I think it's somewhat because of confusion or differing opinions on the criteria for what makes a book LGBT. Is it any book with a queer main character? Does it have to be a book about being queer? How relevant does the character's LGBTQ identity have to be to the book for it to deserve that label?

I don't know, but by some guidelines I think it's fair to label an m/f love story as an LGBT book if at least one of their same-gender exes or their bisexuality or asexuality plays a role in the book, alongside the m/f romance. On the other hand, while I love the Murderbot series, I don't agree with the books being labeled LGBT, because the main character being agender is far less relevant than it not being human, to the point that it's just a side fact and so are all the other queer elements of the society it's set in.

(Anonymous) 2025-03-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh I get where you're coming from. An M/F romance doesn't stop being a het relationship because the people are bi, just like M/M or F/F doesn't stop being a gay relationship because the people are bi.

Characters currently in a gay relationship situation doesn't make them gay, and them currently in a het relationship situation doesn't make them straight, but the relationships are different from the characters. You can totally have queer characters in a het/straight relationship, these are different things.

I don't think it's sad. If it's the activity that you enjoy, that's what's important regardless of what you make or why.

Yeah, Persian breeding is out of control. The breed standard is insane. And I can't believe people still deliberately breed munchkin or Scottish Fold cats.

What's wrong with that? If you enjoy making things and you enjoy the attention and praise of posting them, congrats, you've found a good hobby for you!
