It's a series aimed at guys? Really? o_o I never knew that. I never saw the fanservice appeal. Lucky Star was definitely about nothing but the fanservice (just look at how the opening of the anime spends a couple seconds on just the girls' skirts), but I never saw that about Azumanga Daioh.

It ran in a magazine squarely targeted at young men, but it's drawn by a woman and based on the fact that it has strong characters and very little fanservice I think she intended it to be enjoyed by anyone. So it's technically a "boy's" series because the type of magazine where it is originally syndicated is how a manga earns the shoujo/shounen/etc label, but it's pretty atypical for the genre.
