Was psyched that they’d do another adaptation and especially focusing on Smiley. Maybe they’ll even cover my little-mentioned fave.

But this casting is not making me excited. Didn’t even love Gary Oldman, to be honest.

After watching a single episode of Succession, I do find him extremely unattractive now!

I'm guessing though that they're starting younger and getting more decrepit through the ages.

This is a character who is repeatedly described as reminding people of a toad or a mole.

He’s sort of the anti James Bond: thoughtful, measured, meticulous, unattractive, uncool, dressed in expensive clothes that don’t fit him well, unsuccessful with women, not a physical threat. It’s important that his wife is out of his league. It’s important that he’s overlooked and underestimated.

I can’t imagine them doing enough to Matthew Macfadyen to reflect that. And without that, it’s just not George Smiley. It’s some other character.

The only thing I remember about the soundtrack to that movie is the line in that one song about "seeing unborn children in a woman's eyes".
That made me want to throw right up and if a man ever said that to me I'd run like hell.

I couldn't agree more with you. And their actors are phenomenal in those roles. Often, I watch their interactions and think: "Man this is Shakespearian theater level of epic, and beautiful/tragic/every emotion possible". Or it's funny as heck. Their journey as individuals is reflected so beautifully in their journey from enemies to friends. Great to have a secret showing appreciation for this, IMO, underrated duo.

I still can’t get over the whole “starting a military action over an unsecured public app”. Why isn’t there more of an uproar in Congress over this? All the screaming about “but her emails” and this is the response to something that is much more of a violation of security protocols? What the everloving fuck?

The current administration is a goddamned train wreck, and they are going to take us all down with them, the incompetent idiots.
