When was it San Francisco changed from quirky, but more or less ordinary and functional city into the techbro dystopian hellhole it is today?

It seemed like more or less okay in the early nineties when I last saw it, but everything I've seen about it lately seems insane.

Most actors don't care as long as they get paid. Plus most shows don't even last a full season, especially not traditional ones, and most roles are only for a few episodes of that season. The long running never ages shows like Buffy are the exception rather than the rule.

I don't think I've ever seen one IRL, so it seems like the world as a whole voted not cool, at least for the time being. Maybe they'll make a comeback?

I had one growing up but as an adult, they always seem like a safety hazard. I wish they had like....elegant ones though because watching the blobs is relaxing.
