Maybe it had something to do with people that fetishize Japan and Japanese products to the point of not realizing it's a real place with real people, but now? I'm not saying that you need to, or should even be, LOLANIME, but you should know (being invested in the fashion industry) that a lot of manga and anime "social wear" takes cues from the fashion industry, and can be considered another form of advertisement.

I guess I'm just saying, don't be so quick to write anime and manga off, regardless of the reason - all forms of media are big basis for advertisement, and with one so popular in Japan, especially geared toward mostly tweens and teens, it may even be to your benefit to check some of it out.

However, I can completely understand if it's just not your thing. Some people don't dig cartoons, and that's cool. But if you're against it because of the social stigma attached to it, I urge you to reconsider.
