I really think things like this are a matter of phrasing. If you take every opportunity to declare that YOU'RE A WOMAN AND YOU HAVE RIGHTS AND PEOPLE ARE OPPRESSING YOU OMG, of course people will think you're unhinged. You can speak up in your sexist workplace, just make sure to emphasize that you're perfectly capable and yet you're being treated differently. If they think you're not capable, prove that you are, back up what you're saying. I've used this method to teach food service folks that pretty girls won't get the vapours if they have to carry more than five pounds, it does work.

Getting frothy and angry isn't the only way to address issues, and it's definitely not the best way to convince neutral bystanders that your cause is reasonable.
