Still keen on the idea of a Ripper spin-off from Buffy.

Even more so since recently discussing it with someone. Our idea was that it should have a framing device of Old Giles reflecting a bit on his life and maybe the current challenges facing new young slayers. (I imagine him as a retired Watcher who is maybe working on his memoirs, maybe trying to get the Watchers’ records back in order and/or gets called in to consult every so often.) That would spark some flashbacks from his youth on a connected topic.

I’d hope that would give a sense of connection from the past to the present, especially that things happening in the flashbacks have relevant implications for the current day.

Make it a time travel prequel. A version of young Ripper gets transplanted to new future, that way you can get the best of both worlds. We can have old Giles mentoring his young self in the now, and because it is time travel/alternate version we don't have to worry about needing it to conform with the previous lore.
