It pisses me off that ~I hope they're okay~ is the only 'polite' and 'acceptable' response to others ghosting exchanges and group activities

Nah girl. I'm done with that. I hope they're not okay. I hope they're in exactly enough of a minor emergency to justify flaking on the things they signed up for and could have planned for days or weeks in advance. Because if they were fine and dandy all along? Then everyone else is in a group with an asshole who doesn't respect or value them or their time.

I guess I read 'I hope they're okay' differently than you - I usually think it's more along the lines of 'I hope they're not dead*', rather than 'I hope they are fine and dandy'.

*or in a very seriously bad situation (serious illness or injury, death in the family, a breakdown, etc.)

This is definitely how I’ve always understood it. “I hope they’re not out of contact or skipping out on plans because something awful has happened.”

But thanks for drawing attention to this potential ambiguity.

To me, it's the equivalent of a loved one being very late or not showing up and saying "I hope they're okay, but if they just forgot or flaked, I'm going to kill them".

I prefer a middle ground here.

I don't wish harm on anyone. But I do wish we'd talk about how it's actually very frustrating when you work hard on a fic, and the fest mods disappear. When someone keeps telling you they'll "get to it this weekend" for months.

I started taking zoloft and while my life has had mostly positive results from it, I realized I now have zero interest in fandom or writing fic.

I am now debating if that makes me sad enough to stop taking them, even though the general irl changes are positive.
