I agree to everything you just said. (I love that the writers are still acknowledging their slash fans to a certain degree and yeah, with Morganna/Arthur in the mix they really should have slowed the development down a bit to deal with that pairing first).

How dare anyone have hope that the bromance and the OT4 would continue to flourish in season two, approximately as much as they did in season one? God, do I suck. Oh, but I guess I will just go right ahead and shift gears along with the show and ship Gwen and Arthur now because they're pretty together and the showrunners and certain fans think that I should.

No, I didn't "believe" it was going to be Merlin/Arthur. But such is the nature of shipping. You can ship whoever you bloody well like. And I REALLY like Merlin/Arthur.

Besides, if "canon" is going to be the winning argument for Gwen/Arthur, then you might want to consider just how much of this series royally screw over historic (Legend and such) canon in so many other ways.

It's not so much that I hate it, I just can't see it ending very well. Don't forget, Guinevere DID cheat on Arthur with Lancelot and I can't see a woman like Guinevere (who probably had a lot riding on her marriage to Arthur), seeking love and affection somewhere else unless she was really unhappy with her marriage.

Most Merlin/Arthur shippers (I hope) realize that their ship is AU at the least. It's glorious to imagine, but there are hundreds of years of "fic" supporting Arthur/Guenivere, and one year behind Merlin/Arthur. It does occur to me, though, that Gwen in the show has only her name in common with the historical/literary character. To me, she's not really Guenivere. That's my only problem with Arthur/Gwen.

Lancelot was a late medieval invention by French troubadors. A/G were going along about 700 years before the storytellers decided to talk on that little love triangle and make the woman, once again, the root of all evil.
