I can be so easily influenced by people I like or watch. I don't actually watch too many influencers/youtubers/etc but I do have a few. One of them is backpacking person and even though I know (from watching them for awhile now) we have different styles/tastes when it comes to gear, every time they mention loving something I have the urge to go out and buy it. I am pretty good about not actually buying the stuff, but I have definitely been duped into buying a worthless (to me, at least) thing before. So I feel you. Glad you found something that can help curb the urge, so in that sense maybe it wasn't so useless after all? lol

I'm such a sucker for planners. I somehow always thing this is the planner that will magically work and I will stick with it. But they are basically all the same, just dumb "tips and tricks" that are just basic common sense.

I am really trying to hold myself back from buying any new art/craft supplies just because I saw someone do something cool in a video online.

Either I can figure out how to do something similar with supplies I already have or I can park that technique in the “eventually, someday” category.

My weakness is specialty stuff for hobbies where I already own a ton of stuff. Tomorrow I’m buying a new sewing machine because it has a feature I don’t have on my other three. And I’m not entirely certain that feature is something I REALLY need. But I’d love it, it’s something I’ve wished for many times over the last 15 years and I can afford it.
(But mostly I’m getting it because I want it and it’s shiny and exciting and I can rationalize almost anything I want)

I've got tiktok but the adds literally don't work on me, mostly because it all looks like cheap tat and I don't trust the in-app shop so I don't use it. It's the same for Instagram when I used that, I didn't trust the in-app purchasing program so was never tempted to buy anything.

Plus nothing that ever gets advertised to me on social media sites is ever something I'd be into, it's either trendy clothing stuff when I dress goth/alt, or pointless home decorating stuff that I also don't care for. Even as a book person the books that get advertised to me aren't ones I want to read, or if they are I'll go to my local library to see if they're there or order them from my local bookshop. xD

I don't buy a lot of stuff I see online. It's a mix of not trusting most app shops and being lazy. I've been convinced by some influencers or gone looking for online recommendations on some things here or there.

It's always a mixed bag. Some stuff does exactly what was being advertised, and some are so disappointing/a scam.
I often go on Amazon or find the Thing at stores/the mall when I make my purchases.
Bought a bottle of eyelash lengthening serum on Amazon after seeing a short where a lady swore by it.
A friend bought the green pistachio chocolate bar when we saw a stall selling it at the mall. It was tasty, wasn't expecting it to remind me so much of chocolate peanut butter cups. Love the taste of pistachio but took a moment to get used to it since my taste buds are used to peanut butter.

Last thing I want to say, I love seeing reviews on a popular item, especially the stuff I'm mildly curious about but know I will never buy. I appreciate when people are honest about the product.

I'm waiting to watch something of the tv series before trying reading the books because, frankly, they're fucking expensive! All the online gushing is less than convincing as well. Maybe they're great but I need a small push before committing.

Yes! Theme songs used to be so fun! And even when they weren't fun lyrically, they were great music and scenes. I loved Angel: The Series little violin and dramatic clips intro.

I prefer Wyatt Earp over Tombstone but hard agree with the 2016 version of Magnificent Seven! I also loved the remake of True Grit and rank it as one of my top five westerns.

I don't see how using first person POV gets around pronouns. Murderbot calls all other bots 'it'. People call Murderbot 'it'. Murderbot never has an internal thoughts about pronouns or preferences. Clearly it has no problem with 'it'.

I'm a domestic worker, so no benefits like fancy retirement or health insurance for me. I find it funny when people just assume everyone has some kind of retirement money lined up. Lots of that talk in the US these days.
