AYRT, I mean, I've seen both. I consider that example of downplaying marginalization and constantly bringing up their race to be the opposite side of the same coin as "How am I white privileged/racist if I'm also [LGBT/disabled/poor/etc.]?" Both are benevolently racist and I don't see how either do any good for PoC. Just be mindful and give them space on their issues.
