I hate to sound like a dick, but after reading the first two arcs (with the jerk teacher, and then with the mansion and the alliances) I was very much unimpressed with the canon. The art wasn't very good and it seemed to think it was being really clever without actually being that clever. Maybe it gets better, but I didn't like what I read.

It picked up after the first couple of games. The stakes got higher and a few of the characters started sucking a lot less. The art improved a bit, too. It remains a numbers game, so if you enjoy figuring that out, stick with it. If you can handle the fact that every dramatic reveal is countered with "Ah HA! But YOU didn't take into account that blahty bleebitty bloo" it's an entertaining read.

I'm still kind of WTFing at the thinly-veiled North and South Korea references, myself.

Liar Game is one of those series that's very wordy, and does not try to impress with lots of action. Beause, well, there isn't any. Usually. It's all psychological, and if you aren't willing to sit and just think, then yeah, it's kinda boring.

That being said, I still adore the main cast to bits, and the later games are much more interesting to me.

Maybe see if you can still download the first season of the live action series? They deliberately camp it up, and it's actually really entertaining because of it.

oh my god, I love Liar Game. :[ I don't think it's pretentious or that it thinks it's so clever at all (wow awk. sentence)... It is clever, like holy crap the games are so exciting and original and I would never be able to win them, and I consider myself a smart person okay. I'm so picky about art but the content just makes up for everything.

...did not like the drama, however. :/

Yeah, the bit about the criminal guy's mother (Anon is bad with Japanese names) was kinda dull, even though I guess he needed a reason to stick around. Other than that, I kinda liked the dramatic/social experiment side of the story.

Liar Game rocks.

The art sucks, to be honest, but since mostly they show diagrams I don't mind too much. I follow it just because I enjoy the overly-complicated games that the author comes up with. It's not the greatest thing ever, but it's not bad either. It always makes me happy to find out that other people know of it.

Also I ship Akiyama/Nao, if only because I can't follow anything without at least one shipping.
