Heh, go figure. I had the exact opposite thing happen. I didn't watch last season because I was sick of watching House be an unrepentant asshole, and then I happened to catch this season's premiere and it REDEEMED the show for me.

Just goes to show - you can't please everyone. :/ I am sorry the show's ruined for you, though...

I personally thought his assholishness was getting kinda tired. I loved it when the show began, but after all this time, I'm kinda glad to see him developing a bit more. You can only write this sort of character for so long before they need to get off the air or change.

I totally understand the OP, though. Normally I hate it when writers try to fix what isn't broken.

I hated the season premiere too. It didn't feel like an episode of House at all. I felt so alone about this though, because everyone wouldn't shut up about how it was awesome.

I thought the premiere was handled way better than I had anticipated. They didn't fully throw House's characterisation out of the window, and I am relieved that he is doing better but still remains snarky while doing so.

I'm just happy he's doing better because he'd remind me of my dad and it'd make me sad.

I honestly tried to like the episode and... no, just no. I went in open minded, expecting something very good and ended up laughing at the sex scene, general preachiness and horrible plot ("SEE? All she needed was HER BOX!").
Really, show? REALLY?

This being said, I'm still watching the show. I CAN'T QUIT WATCHING NOW. I'm beginning to wish House could have episodes as horrible as Heroes's third season - then I could stop watching. But no, the latest episode with President Mu---- TOTALLY NOT REAL WORLD LEADER was actually good! And maybe next week's will be too? Maybe? And we'll get some of the awesomeness of the first seasons back?

It's called "character development," OP, and it's been long overdue since the end of season three. They've made so much of a point of how the way House lived made him almost suicidal, and they haven't followed through on that premise until now. Him being kept exactly the same was actually forcing him to be something he's not, which is why S4 and S5 were unmemorable at best, and sucked balls at worst. House can continue to have issues and problems to deal with and fail at and try to overcome, but at least it's not the same ones over and over. Just like real life!

So true, I just watched "Broken" and maybe I'm still under shock, but, WTF, Shore? So, it is all about sunshine and puppies, huh? I don't know what happens next, they'll probably reset House, but that was so NOT House. And I might be in the minority, but the show sucks without the other regular characters.

I recorded the premier, but haven't watched it. Not sure if I ever will b/c I heard about the complete lack of his team, Cuddy, and very little Wilson. I liked the next two eps though and he didn't seem too softened up. What'll ruin it for me is if they make good on the rumored Huddy and turn the show into Moonlighting.

I don't necessarily agree with this secret, but I HATED the premiere and every ep so far this season. I was so happy with the show after the last handful in season 5, but this show is rapidly becoming dead to me.
