I've got my own overlooked OTP here (Snake/Fox obv) and I think that in both cases the problem is basically the same; lack of canon space for ficcing around in. Solid/Liquid knew each other for all of a few hours - previously, one hadn't known the other existed, and after that, one of them was basically dead (though I totally ship Liquid Ocelot/Old Snake because holy hell they kissed it's canon). Snake and Otacon worked and probably lived together for over nine years. So if you imagine a story you want to write or a trope you want to use for Snake/Otacon you've got lots of lovely space to do it, you pick an appropriate canon point and off you go. Snake/Liquid...in most cases you'd have to build some kind of plausible AU where MGS1 never happened/happened differently, then worry about the other consequences of that, then try to make the text of your story explain and justify your deviations from canon, then - Yeah. I mean, you could just play it as complete crack, but I could see it being hard to find an easy middle ground. This is possibly a case of 'taking canon too goddamn seriously', and if you just wrote it without worrying about overblown context, I'd definitely read it (I read damn near anything).

But I guess this is why in the LJ-fandom Snake/Liquid seems to get more play in RP than in fic. And one night I went archive-diving on FM and read the best threesome log ever, and it left me convinced that the only right pairing for Liquid is Liquid/Liquid. They're perfect together. And selfcest is canon now so~

There aren't any twincest requests on the mgs_slash hallowe'en meme yet, are there? You could start there. :P

My fandomsecret is that I kinda feel this way for het fans in the LJ fandom; there is all that lovely het potential in MGS and very little fic for it on LJ. :(
