I haven't read the book in a long time (not since the course I took in Counter-Culture Lit in college, which would've been at least five years ago -- I feel old now), I just remember not liking her. The only gender-based stuff I remember was all the stuff about how she put on a feminine passive-aggressive facade but was really anything but -- to be honest, that seems realistic to me given the time period. I don't remember her being sexualized at all, but like I said it's been a long time since I read the book (this thread makes me want to drag it back out).

It was just the opposite, actually. She makes very sure NOT to present herself as sexual, and that is one of the things that freaks the patients out about her. The undressing scene is about the hero taking away her power by reminding her and everyone within sight of her that she's a woman. Sure, she needed to have her power taken away somehow, but squick. And this comes after a conversation toward the beginning of the book wherein said hero strongly implies that men's "only defense" against women is their ability to sexually objectify us.
I can understand not catching this stuff on the first read-through. It was such a compelling story in other ways that I didn't myself, until I thought back on it some months later.
