Psh, you're not the one telling me GO WATCH IT NAO YOU'RE MISSING OUT or anything. I see why it's hyped, but at the same time, I feel like it's one of those things that doesn't deserve the hype it gets.

(FF12? I just think the storyline is boring, which is disappointing, considering that's usually a high point of FF games. Not only that, but watching people play games should make ME want to play them, not go take a nap. D: )

Hype isn't really something that's "deserved." It just sort of... happens, regardless of quality or merit.

I like the story in FF12, along with finding the overall game fun to play, but that's just me. I can't expect you to like something just because I do, you know?

I'm a little frustrated by my own lack of interest, to be honest, because I really WANT to like it, it's FINAL FANTASY. D:

Maybe if you played you'd like it more because you might have fun just playing the game. That's the point of a video game, right? Playing a fun game.

I guess I like the story because it's similar to Star Wars, but it addresses something that Star Wars didn't. When the Rebel Alliance get the schematics to the Death Star, the idea that they could build their own Death Star or other weapons based on the Death Star is never even brought up. It's just GIANT GUNS AND BOMBS ARE EVIL AND THAT'S IT. Ashe has the opportunity to build her own Death Star, and she's really struggling with the decision, which to me is sympathetic and realistic.

I think the issue with that would be building their OWN death star makes them no better than the empire anyway. IDK, I'm kind of like...not sucked in at all. It makes me kind of sad. D:

I think getting immersed at that point will be all about how good the battle system is.

LOL STEPPING IN FOR FF12 CONVERSATION AT RANDOM.

I played that game last year from beginning to end, thoroughly. What I think lacked for me, is I couldn't grasp the plot because the characters were very. VERY. dry. The dialogue likewise, and not in a humorous way. I was joking to my friend how all of the characters were insanely proper/polite, all apart from Balthier who was only like that half the time (and yet had more personality than the entire cast combined). Now the shame is the story isn't half bad (and it's almost more politicized than any other FF before), but I just didn't sympathize with it, which made the story really show it's gaping typicality in certain moments. The emotions felt really empty, so a cutscene I was supposed to feel engaged with struck an empty tone with me. I mean, maybe someone found in there somewhere some lurking personality, maybe I'm searching for a more relatable character but none of them, from what I could tell, went through any growth (it as as if the characters were telling you of their pasts where they may have gone through some growth at one point) and truthfully, if I'm playing a game, with a party, I want to be really sympathetic to them. The only character I ended up liking was Larsa, if only because of his insight into the whole matter (and was the youngest character in the game noless). It goes for the fact that I manage to adore the Suikoden games when if you take down the stories piece by piece none of them are as brilliant as what the characters do to shape it. But I suppose same could be said of any FF game. And hell, why I adored the original Kingdom Hearts and hated the second

The battle system I feel has the same overarching problem of brilliant concepts, boring boring boring execution. Some of the battles are brilliantly tricky and pulling. The final hunts are really great and keep you on your toes (though I will never forget that fucking 4 hour atrocity at the end), but while your traversing most of the game, as long as you set up some beautiful gambits... well, lets just say I wrote plenty an essay for class, while trudging through the game.

But to be fair, I did beat the entire game so it wasn't irritating, and it was gorgeous (from monster design to landscaping, Square knows how to pull the pretty). But I did not stay for the story, purely for the hunts. Heh I mean I did the same bloody thing with FFX-2 so who the hell knows why I beat even the worst games thoroughly.
