Dungeon Crawler Carl. I’m NOT one of the anons who has mentioned reading it here before. It’s partly because of at least one other anon reading it recently that I decided to give it another try. I’m about halfway through book 3 and brimming with theories but don’t want to look anything up and spoil myself.

no spoilers

I put off reading DCC for forever because it just didn't seem like my thing plus I'm contrary and hate how people could not shut up about it, but damn did that series suck me in. I think I read all all 7 books in one month and then went and re-read book 1 after I finished book 7. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

My hubby's reading that, he loves it. I might give it a shot after him.

I have heard such good things about this series but I am currently at... [checks], 256 books on my physical TBR and I am trying to be good haha.

I'm reading this wild book called "Queer Ducks". It's about the natural occurrences of same-sex attraction and actions in the animal kingdom. Funny and fascinating!

Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C Wrede. I haven't read it since I was a kid and I saw it on Kindle Unlimited so decided to give it a try as an adult. I'm enjoying it!

Before that was I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman and that book left me so lost for words. I still am not sure if I loved it or hated it. All I know is I'm glad I read it.

I have not found any fic in months and I am sad. I don't really have a fandom right now and all my old fandoms have nothing that's grabbed my interest.

Horror Novel and "innapropriate use of devil fruit powers" fanfic!

I finished a horror novel called The Deep by Nick Cutter. I highly recommend it (though it can be a bit gory). It's my favorite book I've read this year.

Also have to recommend this fic I'm currently reading. I know there were some posts about how "inappropriate use of devil fruit powers" never really deliver. Well, this Buggy/Mihawk/Crocodile fic ABSOLUTELY delivers on that tag. https://archiveofourown.org/works/59701957

I hope Nick Cutter is a penname because it rules. Also, thank you.

Hope you enjoy whichever you are excited about! And yes, it is a penname.

The Lost Family: How DNA Testing Is Upending Who We Are - fascinating read about people's experience with surprises in their DNA testing. It goes into how DNA testing works on a scientific level, the history and pitfalls of regarding genes as destiny (e.g. genocide, diseases, IQ, etc), how we are changing or not changing our views of family, etc etc.

Fiction: A House for the Season series by M.C. Beaton. They're these short Regency-ish romances centered around this house that's rented out for the "season" in London for cheap each year because it's got an awful reputation. Each book (of 6) features a different debutante finding her wealthy new husband. Meanwhile the servants of the house have bonded and they flourish and suffer as their circumstances change. They were really pleasant light reads.

Non Fiction: Gilded Lives, Fatal Voyage by Hugh Brewster. Loads of Titanic accounts. It's pretty cool. It's fine. The Way We Never Were by Stephanie Coontz which is the "Myth shattering history of the American family." It rules and is fascinating but I needed to pick up Gilded Lives every few hours because TWWNW is just such a bummer. Yes, even people dying on the Titanic is comparatively lighter.

Fanfiction: Litania Somnii Improbi by Eisenschrott which is Space Marine 2/Warhammer 40k fic about SM2's Chaplain dealing with his feelings and crush and fears and chaos and also maybe he should really make out with the Brother Apothecary before his armor's machine spirit dies from all his angst and sexual repression. It updates once a month (ish) and I love it.

Last finished was In the Shadow Garden by Liz Parker. Current read is Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye. The cover is just... [chef's kiss].

I'm in the middle of the first Silo trilogy book. Not bad for now, it has piqued my interest and I think I will finish the trilogy soon enough. I'm lucky that all books are currently available in my public library, ehe.

I'm also reading A LOT of Jayvik fics. It's not the most creative fandom out there (lots of young people are fairly active. I'm used to more "marinated" fandoms), but it's chill enough and I'm famished for good post-canon fix-it fics, so I'm like reading anything under those tag, lol.
