The thing with "bad writing" is that it's highly subjective most of the time. Yes, objectively, bad writing exists but it is used so much as a shorthand for "I didn't like it" that it's basically meaningless in fandom discourse.

Claiming that something isn't a "bug" because someone loves OTT melodrama isn't very rational.
Nor is saying it IS a bug because someone really hates it. That's the point. Just because a genre has a common trope that you dislike doesn't mean the whole genre sucks. It just means it's not for you.
