I dont get into debt, which means I have dogshit credit score (Apparently no credit history is the same as poor credit history) meaning I rent. Mortgage isnt an option for what I consider to be responsibility and living within my meams. My share of rent is about £400 per month. 2 bedroom terraced house in low COL area.

Take out a secured loan, park the proceeds in your savings, and use them to pay it. Boom: you've now got a credit history from borrowing off of your own money and paying yourself back instead of going into actual debt.

Renting is going into debt. At no point in time as a renter will you not owe money. But you only pay a mortgage for a set period of time and then you own your home. Additionally, a mortgage property is part of your assets but a rented property is not. Getting on the property ladder is essential to financial security, hence the calls the last 10 years for the government to stabilize the housing market and limit commercial ownership of residential property.
