What media have you tried really hard to get into but just can't?

I cannot get into One Piece. The art work is so f'ing ugly. And one of the main characters being a perv is not it for me. Though, I did like the live action.

LotR. It's my mom's favorite, she reads it almost once a year. I find the books so boring, and I fell asleep in the theatre when she dragged me to see the first LotR movie.

LotR I will read now and again, but The Silmarillion just stops me dead, even when I find the plot summaries interesting. The prose is just leaden as far as I'm concerned.

I read a lot of superhero comics so you think I'd deal with ugly art just fine, but the nose on that one guy in One Piece freaks me out.

The first that came to mind is Natsume Yuujinchou. I wanted to like it so bad because friends with the best of tastes loved it and it sounded great in theory. In practice I always fell asleep watching the first episode.

Second that came to mind was damnmei generally. Similar feeling I guess, of feeling immensely bored by old East Asian temples and legends and culture. I’m more of an urban contemporary fan I guess.

There is a LOT of modern world danmei though. I don't particularly like it because I prefer fantasy/historical but there is a LOT.

Demon Slayer, just didn't grab my attention. A bunch of my coworkers recommended it.
