I've always liked that song.

Same! Smashmouth was very new and different when they came onto the scene. I hate that everyone hates them because of Shrek :(

Now the version of the song from Honest Trailers is stuck in my head.

I have the version of "Shrek retold" stuck lol

I love that song. And Accidentally in Love, the big song in the second movie, as well.

I was made to sing this song as part of a school graduation ceremony, which sort of ruined it for me.

Before that, I thought it was a perfectly fine upbeat pop-rock song of the era.

Did I mishear the lyrics, or "not socially acceptable" is just a jokey exaggeration?

Anyway, I genuinely enjoy Smash Mouth songs, kind of sad I only paid attention to them after the singer passed away.

My beef with Shrek is that it started the trend of "mid-level animated kids' movie with pop song soundtrack" and boy are there a ton of those. And every time the pop song soundtrack makes the movie much worse.

My beef is with the (first) sequel-- I LOVE Bonnie Tyler, and every time I see someone say the Fairy Godmother's Holding Out For a Hero is 'better than the original', I bite my tongue but I am FILLED with an irrational level of upset about it.

Yeah, I agree. It's a decent cover, but Bonnie's is better.

I quite agree, the version from Short Circuit Two was a better sequence too.

If you don't like the song, fine, but I don't get what's "socially unacceptable" about it?
