Agreed. I can't stand most kids; they're not developed, they're annoying, they can't hold a decent conversation. It's not their fault, but I don't want to be around them. Call me when you graduate college.

When it comes to character's bodies? Maybe it's something I'm too ace to understand but I don't care, so long as the character isn't annoying. I'd much rather watch/read a romance about a 100 yr old vampire stuck in the body of a 12 year old boy or girl (but who still acts like a 100 yr old) and a 60 year old regular dude than some of those supposedly fully adult women in some c-dramas who act like spoiled brats who never developed their cortex past the second grade. It's goddamned annoying and I don't want to suffer through that. I don't give a shit what any of them look like.

I get called a pedo a lot when I defend lolis from fascists these days.

idk what being ace has to do with it?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-23 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Me neither. I am ace and I feel personally grossed out by lolisho in general, especially if the fans are de-aging characters so they can have "smaller holes" to play around with which is something I sadly had the misfortune of encountering.

yuck

A sad day to be literate

I've found, in my experience on the internet and in fandom spaces, a knee-jerk reaction to fictional under-aged sex from allos. It doesn't matter to a lot of these people the relative ages, the mental state, the social expectations, etc etc. It doesn't matter when it's violence, or a dystopic society, but as soon as SEX is involved, then obviously you're reading it to get off and if you're getting off to it then you must like and support it in real life and thus if you're reading about one or more underaged characters having sex QED you're a gross predator pedo.

I haven't had this issue when among fellow aces. Obviously we're reading for interesting characters, or plot, or we just love the prose. Rarely does an ace person think that because they're reading smut they must not be ace after all and actually want to do it in real life.

Allos, though? A ton of them automatically assume that if you read about it (just when it's sex though, they don't make this assumption about violence) then you MUST want to do it in real life.

That's funny. I've never encountered that but I can definitely see it. I'm ace and read smut because it's hot, but I still have less than zero interest in having sex. The idea that people think that whatever turns them on or whatever they enjoy reading about is something that they must want irl is hilarious and sad to me.

Unfortunately I encounter them fairly regularly. My "favorite" instance was when someone was doing a fic search in a Hannibal community where the fic was teen! Will with regular!Hannibal, and they got called a pedo and their post got deleted. I never saw them again, so they may have even been banned. I got called a pedo and threatened with being banned when I protested the name calling over fiction.

Ugh and that is why I stopped interacting with fandom spaces years ago. Kinkmemes could never survive these days with fandoms weird puritan streak.

GOD I miss kinkmemes.

I assume being ace is relevant bc like... as another ace person, sex and eroticism in media can be interesting (an aesthetically pleasing shot in a film, or a beautifully rendered painting, or a written scene that gives a new layer of depth and understanding to a character), or it can be uninteresting (flat descriptions of the physical action in a smut scene, or a scene in a show/movie that tries too hard to be titillating but falls short on artistry), it can even make me CRINGE... but I'm not responding to it the way an allosexual person does!

I don't necessarily register that the primary purpose of a sex scene MIGHT be to titillate-- yes, even when reading smutty fanfiction, which I do. So instead of the knee-jerk revulsion of 'this character having sex should not be titillating!', my first thought might instead be about what kind of story could be told where a character with childlike characteristics is having sex-- is it meant to horrify me? Is this a tragedy the character is going to overcome? Or is this just an adult character who happens to be short and youthful, a condition PLENTY of adult sex-havers deal with in the dating scene?

Just to throw this out there, your entire first paragraph could apply to sexual people as well. I always find it interesting how asexual people tend to think sexual people are a monolith that are always horny. Also, some asexual people do get turned on by smut and sex scenes. Asexual doesn't mean no sex drive, it just means no sexual attraction to people/desire to actually have sex.

DA

....We know. The point isn't that allos are a monolith of kneejerk reactions but that the people who assume that people who read/watch something with sex in it must be for titillation and therefore whatever it is must be something those people want to do/actually do in real life are, if not completely, almost always allos. In the larger circle of allos, we're talking about this smaller circle. It is a small circle that does not seem to overlap with the circle of aces.

the secret isn't about........any of that.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes... it is...?? "As soon as the character acts like a believable child, fucking NOPE."
