I'm curious how old you were when you first watched Jar Jar. I only ask because the only people I know that liked him or at least was neutral were all younger when they first saw the movies. I've always figured they were a certain generations Ewoks (the Ewoks were hated by "real" Star Wars fans, but kids who watched it loved them).

Re: What fan favorite characters do you hate?

I don't hate Tony Stark in his own movies. But I've come to hate him in other movies because he just takes over everything. Even after he was dead, he was still taking over other people's movies.

Boba Fett, the Mandalorian, Mandalorian's in general.

Is Xander loved in the Buffy fandom? Can't stand him.

I don't hate the 10th Doctor, but he's probably my least favorite whereas he's clearly the fandom's favorite.

Crowley on Supernatural.

I don't hate Buck on 911, but I find him really annoying.

I strongly dislike Peter Quill, everyone else in the Guardians movies is way more interesting than him.

For hated characters I love, I guess it depends on how they are hated? I mean, there are villains who are hated for who they are but make good characters, like Umbridge. Personally I always loved Cersei as the epic villain she was.

I like Dawn on Buffy. The only Buffy characters i hate are Xander and Riley.

I like the characters in the new Star Wars movies, in spite of all the hate they get from a lot of hte fandom.

She was my favorite purely because I had intense hair envy. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has always been #hairgoals for me.

Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab were big in our house. Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Star Trek shows (first Next Gen, then Voyager). Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Are You Afraid of the Dark. Magic School Bus. Superman: The Animated Series. Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Men in Black animated show. All That. Clarissa Explains it All. And, sadly, 7th Heaven.

I caught some Judging Amy on tv once and got hooked, so watched that a lot.

Then there were a lot of random Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon shows I'd watch randomly but wasn't super invested in. Like Johnny Bravo and Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Re: A+ 5 star no comment movies

Original Star Wars trilogy plus Rogue One. Revenge of the Sith is also almost perfect, just a couple small flaws.

Lion King. How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2.

Jurassic Park.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Jurassic Park a great mention.

Have you thought of increasing it to double, then triple, then quadruple (though I think up to triple would make a big enough blanket).

(Anonymous) 2025-05-25 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, especially a LOT of the two spirit/third gender stuff is really misinformed in a lot of cases, because no, actually, most of the cultures that recognised third genders weren't actually the super queer friendly communities, the vast majority were fairly homophobic cultures that categorised anyone not fitting in the heteronormative order as something "other" and made it a third gender instead.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-25 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll take badly written over no-representation whatsoever, but yea, AAA representation have always been pretty swallow.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-25 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, yes. I'm so tired of seeing people talk about how enlightened those cultures are when no, actually, a lot of those "third genders" were actually just a way to ostracize (often-queer) people who didn't meet the accepted gender norms.

I have always been mostly indifferent about both. Collative Learning's video on C-3PO made me appreciate him more, and I genuinely love the comic where it explains how he got the red-arm.

I can see how he can be grating thought, no character growth, him and R2 being somewhat the mascots of the franchise, and I think they can be a bit overrated. (And Jar-Jar over-hated)

(Anonymous) 2025-05-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't think I can attract attention, put asses in the seats?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-25 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like the "not like the other gurls" thing. It's edgy and a bit cringy, but it came from a genuine feeling of alienation.

Wishbone did a pretty darn good job relating the classics, can't go wrong with it!

I had to say this to my mom yesterday, when she was contemplating a gift for my sister who just lost her oldest dog (and me, who lost my precious cat Oliver to cancer a few months ago): when it comes to memorials, ASK FIRST. You don't know until you ask them whether something you're thinking of will just set them off/trigger worse grief, or otoh be really appreciated. Especially since they may not even know until a few days have passed just what hurts and what feels right. I can't look at an elastic hair tie without bursting into tears because Ollie loved to play with them, but it's just a stupid everyday item to most people. My partner can't look at photos of him, which is a common gift/memorial thing.

I would say, verbal condolences and space to deal are probably what they'll appreciate right away, but let them know that if they plan to honor him in some way, you'd be happy to pay for it, like a frame for a photo or a figurine or what have you. That lets them know that you're grieving with them and would like to honor him in a way that they feel is right for their home and their memories.

Wishbone was the best! He’s a bit after my time but I saw an episode by chance and was hooked. It’s one of the very few shows I’d enjoy seeing a remake or continuation.

Re: Trouble commenting

(Anonymous) 2025-05-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
the text-based captcha they were using went down like a month ago, so they had to quick-patch recaptcha in for anon comments. a lot of places, the code is still kind of borked. that's probably it.

I reach out. “Hey there! I know Name said she was dealing with some medical stuff for a bit but I got the impression she’d be back in touch by now. I just wanted to check that she’s ok and let her know I’m thinking of her.”

Re: What were your favorite childhood shows?

Magnum PI, Punky Brewster, Small Wonder, Family Ties, Silver Spoons, Different Strokes, You Can’t Do That On Television, The A Team, and Knight Rider for live action.

For cartoons, I preferred Looney Tunes over Hannah-Barbara. There were plenty that weren’t by either studio like Smurfs, Shirt Tales, and Snorkles that I liked. Oh and of course He-Man and Transformers and GI Joe. Because knowing is half the battle LOL

+1 this is a perfectly reasonable way to approach it. She'd posted about her hospital stay so it's not like you're bringing up something that wasn't already public knowledge; it's understandable to want to check in on a friend who posted something like that and then hasn't said anything since.

Digimon, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Worst Witch, Noah's Island, Recess, The Power Puff Girls, X-Men the Animated Series and TinTin.

Same; if you wanted me to pick between Jar-Jar and C3PO, I'd prefer Jar-Jar.

No. You don't have ask people first before offering condolences.
