(Anonymous) 2025-05-26 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)Also personally I can't stand it when fans bother the actors over ships, as if we need their input or permission to ship something. No thanks I'll do what I want in my corner without the 'approval' of those working on it. Plus I've never understood asking the actors things like that when they don't write the show/movie, even if they're for a ship it doesn't mean it'll happen. I miss the 4th wall.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-26 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)I just stumbled on a discussion on reddit where people were talking about the "culture and rules/etiquette of fandom" and how they've changed over the years. What was interesting about it was that the apparent drama in the argument came from younger fans saying fandom doesn't have a culture or rules and that it is somehow rude? insulting? idek to try and say it does and try to "police" what fans can do. Part of the whole thing was talking about fandom etiquette and part of that was what stays within fandom and how to talk to the creators and actors etc.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-26 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)The nasty fans that have always been here have been given the power they always wanted and I hate it.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-26 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)And even as big and public as fandom is now, it's still not as big or important as it thinks it is compared to the general audience. It's generally the loudest, most obnoxious people who get listened to, as well. I loathe it.

I miss the feeling of community that fandoms used to have.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-27 06:44 am (UTC)(link)Mostly because fandom can get nasty and to have people actually involved with the project get caught up in the fandom wars is so fucking embarrassing and poisons the entire fandom.
Like, yes, it was fun when Actor A and Actor B joined in on shipping the characters they play, but it got really weird when Actor A defended the ship where their character was shipped with Actor C's character. And the people who wanted Actor C's character shipped with someone else start sending death threats and make racist remarks, it's like....wow, now I don't want to be anywhere near this fandom anymore. I don't even want people to know I'm a fan because I don't want to talk about the fandom toxicity when it's brought up
"Isn't that the series where the lead actors were rude to fans?"
And I don't want to be kissing the butts of famous people who don't even know or care about my existence but at the same time I don't want to reward shitty fan behavior.
Sometimes I just want to enjoy a thing that entertains me. Why does it always have to turn into public discourse on the state of the world and we need to solve racism/sexism/homophobia/depression/bullying?
