Re: Piercings

I don't want piercings. If my parents had asked me about getting my ears pierced (which they couldn't have, as it's customary in my country to pierce girls' ears at birth), I might have declined. But I have those, and my earlobes get red and hot and complain at me when I try to use earrings any bigger or heavier than studs, and I've never been tempted to get others.

I've appreciated the way other people look with piercings in other parts of their ears, on their eyebrows, and on their lower lip. And Indian women with the little nose-post never bothered me, even as a little kid who found noses gross in general. (Don't know why they seemed okay.)

Ear gauging, septum piercing, whatever you call that piercing across the bridge of the nose at eye level, and whatever the square piercing between neck vertebrae is - those really seem ugly to me. Although the last one might have bad associations from how insecure and try-hard the person I know who got it was? I'm not sure. If the Western body mod community ever gets around to trying to appropriate lower lip gauging from that same tribe in Africa that's famous for the stretched earlobes, I suspect that would look more like body-disfigurement than body modification to me, too.
