It seems like a pretty soft general opinion, right? But no. There are so many people that think "censorship is bad" until it hits one of their trigger topics, then you have to have the talk about no, just because you are offended by it doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to talk about it.

I'm having that argument right now over the AO3 spotlight. They're absolutely UP IN ARMS that fictional children being depicted having sex is child porn and it doesn't matter that no children were harmed because it will absolutely 100% lead to children being harmed and oh wait children were harmed because those fictional children were based on REAL children which exploits them!!1!eleventy!

Those people never seem to care about children being murdered or any other disturbing thing being written, but you bring sex into it and they lose their damn minds. I gave up arguing with them years ago, but it's good there are still people like you to fight for good.

Unfortunately I have a terminal case of sommeone-is-wrong-on-the-internet disease. I try to keep at the forefront of my mind that I'm not actually arguing with them, but laying out the case to people who read it. The more people we can stop from going down that stupid road the better.

DA, but I think what you're doing is entirely important and well-justified.

Thank you!

DA part of what made it really clear to me that they do not give a single fuck about people being harmed is because their entire focus is on claiming censorship will prevent hypothetical future sex offenders from discovering what turns them on. Which ... no one needs fiction for, in the first place.

I was stunned when I read the whole brouhaha over violence in video games leading to actual violence was sparked by one court case where the parents of a rich, teenaged boy tried to get him off with a light sentence after having murdered someone, with lawyers claiming he was under the influence of this evil, new media.

Since then, all the mental gymnastics people do to argue that looking at a dirty story will permanently taint people and society needs to prevent that just look like puritanism trying whichever argument sticks, because screaming "it's a sin" just doesn't convince anyone like it used to.

LOL, right? Like, I didn't need to watch porn to figure out that I was bi, I figured that out by existing around members of both sexes and going "... man hot. Woman also hot."
