I’m so sorry your family went through that!

There are many shared traits between autism and childhood trauma so I can see where the headcanon comes from. Although it does make me a little uncomfortable because we see Lilo healing and that reeks of Autism Speaks.

Yeah, autistic people should retain all of the traits that make it difficult for them to function in society and, in some cases, live independently. Any suggestion that it might be good for low-functioning autistic people in particular to "heal" is oppression. The only valid option is for them to be totally dependent on others for their entire lives.
