I think we have all felt that way at some point in fandom and RL, OP. We all need validation of some kind, to know we matter. I think a true attention whore wouldn't care about making real feedback, but just someone paying attetnion to them, usually the result of outrageous behavior.

Stick with it; talk to people, comment on other's work, friend! It take a while to make friends, but it is always worth it.

Yeah srsly, people need validation and fandom can be a good way to get it - but if fandom isn't providing I think you should be looking in other places too.
