He was talking about hiw Disney shouldn't remake Snow Whote because it is an outdated backwards story with outdated backwards stereotypes. He has been pretty vocal about the stereotypes Little People face and how they only get called to play mythical things like dwarves and elves. Disney took his remarks to mean they shouldn't hire LP to play dwarves and said they made the change because of him. Cue everyone saying Dinklage screwed LP actors out of a job.

Personally, I don't think Disney ever had any serious intention of hiring real life actors who are little people. This was just an excuse to fall back on their favorite tool, CGI.

And a lot of little people are annoyed with him, because that's still work, and they view him as speaking on their behalf without bothering to see how they actually feel about it.

Bingo. It was also high profile work that came with a fat paycheck and residuals. It was the kind of work that leads to more work even though it likely would have flopped because the live action remakes don’t draw large enough audiences. For all his posturing, he only takes roles that are LP specific so there would have been seven rivals with name recognition if Disney didn’t use CGI. And since there were casting calls, I don’t believe for a minute that Disney always planned to use CGI. I also think PD was salty that he wasn’t chased to be in the film like he has been with several others since GOT ended.

I can get that a lot of non actor little people are pissed at the acting little people for feeling that way. They are selling the rest of their community out and making things harder by often perpetuating "midget" stereotypes and jokes as part of getting that fat paycheck. It be "work", but it ain't good work for everyone else. They get the paycheck, others catch their punchlines in every day life.

But he wasn't like making a statement to Disney. He was just talking on a podcast about his own opinions. People took it to him making grand statements like he was king of the little people and that he was pressuring Disney to not hire LP or something. He wasn't speaking on behalf of anyone but himself, people just took it and ran with it.

They should have hired short actors who aren't dwarves. Like Seth Green and Patton Oswalt, and then hired a really tall Snow White like Elizabeth Debicki, who's 6'3".

The height-sensitive incels would have rioted instead.

Why am I not surprised Disney would CGI the dwarfs instead of hire little people actors to play the roles? For trying to be a "live action" franchise so badly, they sure do rely very heavily on animation.

Im annoyed because he got famous playing a character who's dwarfism was a huge part of his character and angst. And yet he used it to get in and move up. It reeks of pulling up the ladder behind him.

But also Disney should stop making these movies so... no wrong answers.

I think there's a difference between a character with dwarfism and a straight up non-human fantasy dwarf.

They weren't magical, but they were, I think, a different species. Fantasy dwarves, like in LOTR and Discworld.

Yeah, his objection is not to characters with dwarfism like Tyrion, his objection is to "dwarves" as fantastical characters like in Lord of the Rings and Snow White.
