What temperature do you keep your house?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-21 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I go between 72-75 during the day but it is always 72 at night.

We don't have AC so during summer, it kinda just is what it is (though closing the blinds helps) - usually around 72 at night I guess.
When it's colder, I don't actually mind most rooms being fairly cold (59-62 isn't rare for me in winter) but the one room I need to be warm is the bathroom. I hate cold bathrooms.

We don't have heat in our bathroom amd I hate it so much in the winter. The floor is always so cold.

76-78 during the day in the summer, 74-75 during the night.

67-70 in the winter during the day, 62-65 at night.

62° F in winter and 65° or 15° cooler than outside air temperature during the day in summer. Setting it more than 15° below the outside temp will just make the unit nonstop and cause it to freeze up and ultimately shorten its lifespan. At night in summer we drop it to 64°.

77 in summer, mostly for my parents who are older and get cold faster though.

As cold as possible. We keep the windows open in the winter, unless the temp goes below literal freezing and then we turn the heating on. Summers will generally keep the windows open as well, unless the temp goes above 80, and then we turn the AC on to get it back under 72.

Is it rare where you live for temps to go above 80?

It was where I grew up and I have such fond memories of sleeping on summer nights with open windows. Now I live in the US south and it is miserable in the summer.

Not too rare when it's the season for it. It happens off and on for about three months out of the year. We're actually expected to go up into the 80s for two days this coming week. In related news, it used to be an event when we had multiple days going over 90; the news would keep a counter and everything. With global warming, we stopped doing that because temps will go from 75 to 105 within two days and then drop back into the mid 80s. Our high today was 55. Monday the high is literally supposed to be 80. Like, wtf.

It seems like I've done the opposite as you. I grew up in the US south and we were too poor to have an AC, so I was used to sleeping hot with open windows and fans. Now that I live up north, I can't sleep if it's over 70. (I was recently down visiting family and my mom told me where the blankets were if I needed them since she turns the AC down to a "chilly" 77 at night. -_-!)

Yup. I remember the early years in Boston where we would have open windows in Summer. Then the Philippines and now Texas. Don't do open windows. In Texas not just for the temp but for the pollen. Ugh.

I'm in Virginia and same about the pollen. When the temps are nice for open windows the pollening is upon us and everywhere you look has a coating of yellow, so no open windows. Then it quickly becomes too hot and muggy for open windows. The winters are pretty nice though.

Here we have cedar during winter, which I'm super allergic to.

76 for the summer A/C (it is frequently in the 90s here and 80s at night) and lower than that in winter; 68? We don't put the heat on until late December.

We keep it at 74 generally. Compromise between my mom and me, the one temp that works for both of us. I like it colder, so I keep my ceiling fan on if I'm in my bedroom. She likes it warmer and will dress warm in the house.

Whoa okay, menopausal woman here, and it's always on 68 at night, summer or winter. And I still wake up sweating sometimes.

During the day, it's between 70-72 in summer. Lower in winter to save on the heating bill.

My parents keep theirs about 82 year round. I can't be in there for longer than 20 minutes or so.

75 during the day in summer, but 73 at night. In winter, 65 degrees.

I thought it'd be funny to highlight that everybody is american here. Sorry I wrote anything. I see that fs is as "fun" as ever. What a depressive place with depressed and narrow minded people.
