I love this ❤️ I always enjoyed the daydreaming part of writing fan fic and I came up with a lot more ideas than I ever wrote stories for.

OH WOW, I do the same thing!
I have .txt files divided by fandom/ship and sometimes I open them and I just write little phrases like meta stuff (details I noticed or parallels with other media) or interesting AU ideas and dialogues between the characters and call it a day.
I thought I was the only weirdo to do this without having any interest of writing more complete stuff or publish stuff in general.
I do a similar thing in my sketchbook. I'm a traditional artist who almost only do original stuff but sometimes I draw little fanart as doodles and never show them to anyone.

Yeah, kind of similar. I have some key scenes I would like to write (both fanfic and original) but they would need a larger context and since that seems a chore to write just to get that one scene I imagine, I'll never really get to it.

That's 90% of my drawer "fics" too. I like making up Fanfic summaries for stuff I make up in my head. I do attempt at times, but they don't go very far so they are just for me, I like to say that I enjoy writing like a child draws, lol.

I have posted fic, but just a few 100 words stuff and one small one shot.

Nothing wrong with writing oneshots!

I write fanfic and oh man OP do I have so many unfinished documents, or short little things I wrote just to get me into the headspace for writing that I'll never publish. So you do you, as long as it makes you happy who cares? And imo I think the enjoyment of writing in of itself is rewarding even if I'm not going to publish it, the creative process is good for my brain.

same!

Aww, this is such a lovely secret, OP! I’m glad you have something that makes you happy.

I used to write fic, a million years ago. Now I have files just like you. Sometimes they're scenes, sometimes just snippets of ideas, sometimes an outline for a story. I kind of wish I could get back into writing, but honestly just jotting down these ideas and putting them all in a folder makes me pretty happy on its own.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-27 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
OP, do you want to share some of your writings?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-28 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I humbly submit that you have, in fact, written fanfiction. I don't know of any standard that states you must have written a complete, start-middle-end online publication for it to count as fanfic. You're good, OP.
