Pretty much same. It was on often and I was irrationally annoyed at the retconning of Topanga's character, but I was never super invested. However, I did read somewhere that both Savage brothers were kind of womanizing assholes.

The only other thing I know about the cast is that Will Friedle was on a few episodes of Critical Role and seems like a pretty goofy fun guy.

I’m so out of the loop I don’t even know in what way Star Trek is ending and that in itself is kinda sad.

I'm curious what you are referencing with this. We do have some people who vent about personal stuff, and regular venting threads, or people who ask advice and divulge personal trauma, but I don't really consider that "trauma dumping."

However we do have one (I'm really hoping it's just one) anon that I consider a troll that comes by now and then to threaten suicide and blame others for not being able to stop them. That person is pretty messed up.

But I'm not here every day and I tend to skip any threads that look like drama so I very well could be missing out on the exact comments you're talking about.

Eh, I just assume it happened off screen. I don't need detailed anal cleaning scenes written in. That is definitely not my kink.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Roger seems like such an all-around keeper, he’d probably be very fun in bed.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I honestly had no idea any of these were ending.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
This is like me with the Sex and the City drama. Why do I care?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That anon is a bit much. They are always so mean too.

What fiction tropes or events can you not suspend your belief for?

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It always bothers me when a fic has two characters who are strangers to each other having sex and not using a condom.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
They aren't.

Honestly for me it is more character or universe-related things. Like if something feels too OOC for a particular character, I have difficulty suspending disbelief. Or something that just doesn't make sense in a particular universe (like using modern slang for Middle Earth characters).

It's always interesting to see what people can and can't arbitrarily put aside, like cleaning before anal has to happen but characters stopping for actual poop breaks where the poop exists, doesn't. Nobody ever gets sweaty asscheeks or underboob sweat or smelly armpits or labia or anything and everyone is fresh and clean after action sequences without showering but we draw the line at anal!

Ngl I think it's years of people overzealously scolding others for writing 'unrealistic' gay sex, as though het sex was ever 'realistic,' that's led to this. Fwiw 'unrealistic' and 'anatomically incorrect and impossible' are different things

The main couple absolutely despising one another and that leading to them bumping uglies or falling in love. I can sort-of see the having sex part, but actually ending up having loving feelings towards each other is such a stretch it doesn't work for me. If there isn't a foundation of respect or understanding then I cannot ever envision it working out long-term.

And this isn't some 'the romance needs to be HEALTHY uwu' you can have unhealthy as fuck romances with two characters who love and respect one another, just for me hate-turns-to-love is not something I can buy. Hate-sex is as close as I can get but that's it.

+1.

Sex in fiction isn't realistic no matter what gender permutation you've got going on. Hell I know queer guys who like to read and write 'unrealistic' m/m sex because they want the fantasy of not having to do the effort to actually do anal, much in the same way women will write physically satisfying PiV because maybe it's not the best for them but they want to imagine a story where it is.

Neither of these things are wrong, but we've gotten to a weird point where people are trying to treat fiction as a how-to manual.

SA Like I have never, ever seen a het dude be like 'I can't stand het anal without ass cleaning' - have you? Female asses are magical

If a setting is fantasy or at least fantastical in some way, aliens/robots/etc I can accept any form of 'these people don't have refractory periods' but if something is set in the real world then I can't turn off the disbelief for that. It's weird lmao.

This is more for fic as that's where I see this most often, but it does crop up sometimes in canon stuff.

Oh dude modern slang in Tolkien fic is hilarious, but I also have some sympathy because completely avoiding modern-colloquialisms can be hard(I'm trying to write some Middle-Earth fic and I am very much having to think about my word choices but it's a fun exercise in trying to avoid modern sayings).

Everyone knows we don't poop. Gosh.

Oh totally. I don't expect full-on Tolkien language in fics. I just wince at actual slang terms. And when characters give each other nicknames.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish people would stop using every single fannish space as a random IRL trauma dump.

Like, personal blogs, or even personal posts? Sure, whatever.

But if I have to read one more ostensibly fannish post about how "I'm the only one who truly understands [insert generic popular character] because his big sad eyes in this scene reminded me of [insert needlessly detailed oversharing about trauma]"...

I don't like instant hate to love. But if a fic is longer and actually takes the time to develop things and show the characters changing over time, I can buy that. It just takes more work and usually isn't how it shows up in fics.

Doctor Who is back on hiatus until the Beeb can get another partner, since the Disney deal is over.

Star Trek is ending SNW, and LD, DSC, Pic, and Pro, and S31 have all ended. The proposed Academy series is on hold until after the Skydance deal can be worked out. And the Kelvinverse Fourth movie is in perpetual development hell.

For all practical intents and purposes, they are over for the time being. Certainly for the next few years until the franchise can be rebooted. And none of them, LD, and SNW-possibly, exempted went out on a high.

Yeah, that’s my experience here too.

(Anonymous) 2025-06-29 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree. I find it more unrealistic that fic (almost) always depicts amazingly great sex where both partners have the best orgasms of their lives, sometimes simultaneously, and they can do it multiple times in a row with virtually no refractory period.

But egads, someone hasn't cleaned up satisfactorily! That's taking it too far!

Where do you tend to see that type of thing? I feel like I’ve largely managed to avoid it so far.
