It's always interesting to see what people can and can't arbitrarily put aside, like cleaning before anal has to happen but characters stopping for actual poop breaks where the poop exists, doesn't. Nobody ever gets sweaty asscheeks or underboob sweat or smelly armpits or labia or anything and everyone is fresh and clean after action sequences without showering but we draw the line at anal!

Ngl I think it's years of people overzealously scolding others for writing 'unrealistic' gay sex, as though het sex was ever 'realistic,' that's led to this. Fwiw 'unrealistic' and 'anatomically incorrect and impossible' are different things

Sex in fiction isn't realistic no matter what gender permutation you've got going on. Hell I know queer guys who like to read and write 'unrealistic' m/m sex because they want the fantasy of not having to do the effort to actually do anal, much in the same way women will write physically satisfying PiV because maybe it's not the best for them but they want to imagine a story where it is.

Neither of these things are wrong, but we've gotten to a weird point where people are trying to treat fiction as a how-to manual.

SA Like I have never, ever seen a het dude be like 'I can't stand het anal without ass cleaning' - have you? Female asses are magical

Everyone knows we don't poop. Gosh.

Yeah, I agree. I find it more unrealistic that fic (almost) always depicts amazingly great sex where both partners have the best orgasms of their lives, sometimes simultaneously, and they can do it multiple times in a row with virtually no refractory period.

But egads, someone hasn't cleaned up satisfactorily! That's taking it too far!

I totally get what you mean, but also, I DO have a niggling voice at the back of my mind that complains if I write simultaneous orgasms or skip refractory periods too, haha. So I never write that kind of "mindblowing sex" type of sex scene either, unless the sex has sci-fi or supernatural elements to it. So yeah, I know what it feels like to constantly be like, "But this sex isn't realistic..." when writing a sex scene. (And not saying other people have to cleave closely to realistic sex if they don't want to, but I just also understand the instinct a writer might have to want to avoiding writing sex that takes TOO many liberties with how people's bodily functions work.)

When I was actively engaging in anal sex, I had to learn how to douche and use enemas beforehand. Anal sex is fun but it's also, ahem, a big pain in the ass and I got tired of it. Why on earth would I want that kind of tedium described in a sex scene. Fanfic writers need to not be so uptight about "writing anal sex correctly"!

Exactly. It might cross my mind if we know the characters haven’t had a chance to even shower in a couple days or something, but any kind of sex can get a little gross under those circumstances.
